What is Ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin is a pentapeptide (Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂) that activates the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) in the pituitary, triggering growth-hormone release.

Its distinguishing feature is selectivity. In the original characterisation (Raun et al., Eur J Endocrinol, 1998) it released GH without the significant rises in ACTH or cortisol seen with earlier secretagogues such as GHRP-6 and GHRP-2.
